FTAN UMJ Harvests Caisim Vegetables
(FTAN UMJ) harvested caisim vegetables on Tuesday (19/09/2023) which are the result of hydroponic plant cultivation from FTAN UMJ's garden. The caisim vegetables produced hydroponically are fresher and crunchier.
Head of Laboratory and Garden, Dirgahani Putri, SP, M.Sc., explained the process of planting caisim vegetables starting from sowing to the harvest period. Cultivating caisim vegetables takes approximately six weeks. First, the caisim is planted for three days in a shady place until it germinates, then moved to the nursery for 10-14 days.
The things that must be considered during the cultivation process are environmental cleanliness and nutrition. "Caisim vegetables require nutrients above 1100 to 1200. Nutrition for caisim vegetables is obtained through continuously flowing water. "The caisim hydroponic plant does not depend on weather conditions, it just needs sufficient sunlight," explained Dirgahani.
Not only hydroponics, caisim vegetables can also be grown using soil media, however, the process of cultivating caisim vegetables using hydroponics takes less time than using soil media, because it is always supplied with water.
FTAN UMJ's garden regularly produces harvests of various types of vegetables every month and produces fresh, high-quality green vegetables. The vegetable harvest will then be marketed in the UMJ environment at an affordable price.
Furthermore, in order to enliven Muhammadiyah Day VII which will be held by FTAN UMJ in the next month, caisim vegetables are currently being prepared to be harvested and will be distributed free of charge to the public.
