Halaqah Tarjih LPP-AIK UMJ Discusses Leadership in Islam

 The creation of a good society is inseparable from the services of leaders. If a leader with his power allows people to lose their faith, then a country has gone astray. The quote was conveyed by Halaqah Tarjih, Dr. Saiful Bahri, Lc. MA, at the At-Taqwa Mosque,  , Friday, (25/08/2023).

The issue of leadership and power is inseparable from how Islam views these two things. This topic was raised by the UMJ  in a study that carried the theme of Future Indonesian Leadership Overview of Tarjih Muhammadiyah and Political Science.

The Chairman of the DKI Jakarta PWM MTT as well as a UMJ Postgraduate lecturer, Dr. Saiful Bahri, Lc. MA, fully examines how leadership has been stated in the Al-Quran. One of them concerns Ummatan Wasath'an or people who are known to be calm, just and superior.

Creating Ummatan Wasathan will form good leadership in the community. Saiful told how the Prophet was sent down in a city that was far from creeds and whose inhabitants were illiterate. But the Apostle changed all that by building an advanced civilization.

“The presence of a leader must be dynamic. One of the conditions is to present Rasulullah SAW as motivation and spirit in the community. And this is a form of strong leadership , namely always presenting the Apostle in people's lives," said Saiful.

On the same occasion, the second resource person, namely a FISIP UMJ lecturer, Dr. Sri Yunanto, Ph.D., explained about future leadership in Indonesia. Leaders are people who can influence subordinates or people for a purpose. The success of a leader is when he can bring people to that goal.

“Leadership is born from a certain situation. If there is something we don't like, but in that situation we still have to choose one, then we have to accept it. Therefore, whoever the leader is, what is his character and competence, when he officially becomes the leader of the nation, he must submit to the goals of the country," said Yunanto.

There are no perfect leaders. But there are also no leaders who fail miserably. To respond to the general election in 2024, Yunanto suggested that the public recognize the capacity, capability, stability, ability, and finally the personality of the elected leaders.

Apart from that, Yunanto also discussed the political strategy of the Muhammadiyah organization which continues to support all Muhammadiyah cadres in the 2024 election. “As long as the vision and mission are in line with Muhammadiyah. Muhammadiyah has been proven to educate cadres to continue Muhammadiyah's charitable efforts throughout the region," said Yunanto.

The Halaqah Tarjih event was opened with remarks from the Chairman of LPP-AIK UMJ, Drs. Fakhurazi, MA., attended by a number of congregations from the UMJ academic community.
